Bimini Top Frame - Why consider stainless steel?

Corrosion is caused by a chemical reaction between metals and oxygen. Other elements in the air such as water and salt accelerate corrosion. While aluminum stands up well to general weather conditions, one living near salt water or in harsh environments may choose to upgrade to a stainless steel frame to keep their bimini top looking its best.

Except for gold and platinum in their natural state, no metal is completely corrosion proof. However, stainless steel, in countless applications, has proven itself as one of the most cost-effective solutions to battle the natural elements that cause corrosion.

The stainless steel tubing used in our bimini tops is "passivated" and "electropolished" - manufacturing processes that seal the metal and remove pits and crevices that can trap water and invite the onset of corrosion especially in "salty" environments.

It is important to remember that an upgrade to stainless steel does not mean that your frame is "maintenance-free."  As with any investment, proper care is essential to maintaining beauty and performance. Keep your frame clean with stainless steel cleaners only, taking care to read the manufacturer's directions for proper use.

Never use harsh abrasives, scouring pads or steel wool as they will damage the finish, creating microscopic crevices and pits that will collect impurities and invite the onset of rust and corrosion. Your retailer can recommend excellent polishes to keep your frame looking its best for many years of enjoyment!
