Skin Protection While Boating

We all love hanging out on a boat but let’s face it, that sun is killer. Literally. Skin protection while boating is necessary to keep your skin healthy and looking great. There are a few simple things you can do while you’re enjoying the day on the water.

Sunblock

We just can’t stress enough how important it is to use a quality sunblock of at least SPF 30. Look for one that is water resistant and remember to re-apply every 1-2 hours and after swimming or prolonged sweating.

Dress Smart

Keeping your body covered up is always a good idea when you’re spending any amount of time in the sun. Tightly-woven clothing will protect you from the sun’s harmful rays by blocking them out. To determine how protective your clothing is, try this: Place your hand between a single layer of clothing and a light source. If you can see your hand through the material, it isn’t very protective. You can also purchase special clothing that is designed specifically for fishing that is UV protective.

While you’re shopping for Ultraviolet Protection Factor, or UPF-rated clothing, be sure to remember a wide-brimmed hat and close-fitting sunglasses.

In the Shade

When you’re out on the water, there is no natural shade. The sun not only beams down from above, it reflects off the water. Do yourself a favor…INSTALL A BIMINI TOP ON YOUR BOAT. It will make your boating time more enjoyable. We here at Boat Covers Direct® offer Bimini tops in many sizes and applications or if you would prefer to fashion the top yourself, we also offer Sunbrella material! When choosing a Bimini, keep in mind that materials do matter when it comes to sun protection. Sunbrella fabric is considered the best in the marine industry and not only does it carry a 10 year warranty, it is recommended by the Skin Cancer Foundation.

It is very important to make good decisions about keeping yourself protected from sun-induced skin damage. The proper amount of skin protection while boating will help keep your skin looking great and potentially avoid conditions such as sunburn or even skin cancer.

You can explore the internet about articles on sunscreen/sunblock and UPF-rated clothing, but we will make getting a Bimini top a piece of cake! Boat Covers Direct offers many sizes, styles, and material/color options for your boat.
